Every now and then, my girls want something so very badly, that they will do absolutely ANYTHING asked of them in the hopes of that bringing them closer to the this thing they must have RIGHT NOW!!
And I mean anything and I mean for weeks at a time.
I warmly welcome this desperate yearning, because this is where the magic happens.
I get so much mileage from it.
At the top of their lists these past few months has been, a new bedroom decorated to their specific liking, a new pair of tall UGG's, and the one that has become the BIGGEST nuisance in my life, a dog.
So this past weekend, with some of their own money and some of mine, we went to Nordstrom and they bought a new pair of tall UGG's, which was the easiest to accommodate of the top three choices.
From the minute we stepped out of the store and into the car, their new boots were on their feet, and it is Monday night and they have yet to remove them from their feet other than to sleep.
My threats of returning them, began not too soon after we got home as the girls jumped up on the coffee table dancing like maniacs in celebration of their new purchase.
I have threatened them exactly three times since Saturday afternoon, one time even going so far as to physically make them remove them from their feet, oh the drama, you would have thought……
And as I sent them to their rooms, they were screaming.....
“UGGGGHH, what? Take off our UGG's? Seriously Mom, do we have to?”
“Yes, you have to. If you aren’t going to listen to me the first three times I ask you do something, then yes, take off your UGG's.”
“Mom, pleeeeease. Do we really have to take them off? Can’t we just go to our room but leave them on?”
So for the next few weeks, these beautiful girls of mine are going to listen when I speak to them, do what I ask the first time without making me repeat myself, arrive hands washed to dinner when called, get ready for bed promptly when asked, read their books willingly and clean their rooms with aplomb.
I will milk every last bit out of it until one day the magic words, “I swear if you do that again, you can’t wear your UGG's for one week", will lose all of its power and therefore so will I.
That will be a very, very sad day.
