Since I decided to start this category a while ago, I have been waiting, patiently, computer at the ready, for a picture of this clan together which doesn't happen often.

Sure you see pictures of Angelina with Maddox, or Brad alone with Shiloh but very rarely do you see them all together.  This photo is as close as I have ever come to seeing them all together, although the twins are missing.

 

 

This is a great photo and they do look extremely happy.  But whoa, what is the deal with these two?

One day we hear that Brad and Angie are sharing a romantic dinner and the next day, Brad is living in the guest house on their rental property.   

Then there was the week that Angie didn't believe in monogamy, and Brad had moved to a new bachelor pad in LA. 

WTF?

And not that I care {much}, but I want to know the truth here!!  I want to know what is going to happen with these two dammit! 

Ya know, I used to really like Angie.  I thought she was beautiful of course because that you can not deny, but I also thought she was cool and seemed to really live her life in a way that was true to herself.  And I dug that.

Now, lately, I just don't know about her.  She has six children with a man she is not married to, and that I am totally cool with, but I think she made a mistake by saying that she doesn't believe in being held down by one person.

Whether it be a marriage or a long-term commitment, but when you decide to bring six children into a family unit I feel you should have enough respect for your partner not to say things like that out in the media. 

I just don't know what I think about her anymore or if I really care {I'm a loser} but her statement just rubbed me the wrong way and I started to think she was more of an idiot than a cool feminine figure. 

Sometimes I feel sorry for Brad and wonder if he wishes that he never got involved with her.  They have six kids together now and for those kids, I hope they stay together, but sometimes the person who you are most drawn to and intrigued by is not always the best person for you to build a life with.

Yeah, so I think it's safe to say that this post was probably more about me and my feelings than my girls.  I'll try harder next time around.  Promise.
 

A waste

My girls loved Lindsay Lohan in The Parent Trap.  Even though that film was shot so long ago, we still watch it all the time because it is always on the Disney Channel.  Lindsay seemed so full of hope back then.  I mean for god's sake she pulled off an English accent perfectly when she was like ten years old, not to mention the twins part and all that flipping back and forth.  Not easy to do.  

She was amazing and cute and sweet and talented and had her whole future ahead of her.  What the hell has happened to this child?  She has gone so far off the rails that I don't know if she will ever come back.  She is a total disaster or as my Dad would say, possibly a member of the gang who couldn't shoot straight. 

A disaster of EPIC proportions and if I was ever friends with her {AS IF?? and that last sentence sounds about as stupid as when you carry on full on conversations with your friends about celebrities like you talked to them last night or something} she would give me anxiety.  She would be the type of person who would tell you she would do something and then not do it and be like, "Sawry, I forgot.  Get over it.  Whatever."   

I just KNOW it! 

And that would give me major anxiety.

And quite honestly, I can't figure out who is a bigger mess, Linds or Brit?  Although I am going to go with Linds on this one but Brit does deserve an honorable mention because when she was at the height of spinning out of control, she was majorly OUT there.  Remember that time she wore underwear out to a club and then traded clothes with some girls in the bathroom?  Oh yeah and I almost forgot, then let them TAKE pictures of her?  Remember that one??  Maybe she is the bigger mess. 

The only defense Lindsay may have for her craziness is that she was born to those parents.  They have not done right by her in my opinion and I try hard not to be judgmental, especially of the way people parent, but Lindsay drew the shortest straw when it came to doling out parents.

She is an adult now though and she still choose to make bad decisions.  She just can not get it right no matter what she does.  She shows up late to sets, acts like a diva, abuses alcohol, uses drugs, steals things from other people.  It just goes on and on with this girl.  Who I suppose, is not such a girl anymore and more like a young woman.

I like the young actresses in Hollywood like Kristen Stewart or Taylor Swift {I know she is a singer and not an actress but I am trying to prove a point here} who seem, and I say seem because I honestly have no idea other than what I read or don't read about in the paper, to make smart choices and conduct themselves in a manner that warrants respect.  And most importantly their focus is on their craft which is the whole reason they are famous to begin with.

I feel sorry for Lindsay Lohan.  I feel sorry that she didn't have parents who watched out for her and in addition to developing her talent were able to still parent her the way she obviously needed to be parented.  {Hah, that is so not a word!  Right? Or is it?}

Thankfully, Lily and Belle have me and Drew.

Mama's Bits: Gaga

Lady Gaga....what can I say, I mean is she a whack-a-do or what?? 

Just look at her hair in this picture...and what about the way she plays the piano with her foot while she sings along?  That's some funky shizz people.

Actually the truth is, we love her and I may even can so far as to say I adore her.  Her album is on heavy rotation in our house at the moment and although she may be slightly (or way more than slightly) off-center, you can NOT deny that this girl has a serious set of pipes. 

And frankly, when you are that talented you CAN actually wear a phone on your head and still be taken seriously.

My girls know every song and every dance move, although I try REALLY hard to limit that "I wanna take a ride on your disco stick" song.  

Um, yeah, we skip that one.

 

 
{Clearly, this was photo was taken before Gaga was famous and dressing with bags over her head in an effort to continue her performance when she is back sitting in her seat at an awards ceremony.  Did y'all catch that one?}

 

I had never heard Lady Gaga speak and up until this point I had not even read much about her, so I taped an appearance that she made on the Oprah show.  I watched along with my girls and have to admit I was quite taken with her.  She reminded me of a young Madonna, and if you read my 'About Me' page, you will see just how I felt about Madonna while I was growing up.

Gaga was so well spoken and thoughtful in her comments and I was surprised by that, not entirely sure why I was so surprised, but I was.  She spoke about how important it is to maintain a strong bond with you parents and to respect them.  And I have to say as a Mom watching with my girls I hope they heard her message and remember it. 

She also talked about being a workaholic and how driven she is in the pursuit of her music and bringing her artistic aspirations to life.  I  loved that my girls saw her progression from singing in run down New York City nightclubs and rising to where she is now, because for some reason (it's called American Idol) my girls think you can just grow up to be a pop star.

Anyway, props to Gaga and her message to just love yourself for who you are, even if you are so different from everyone else.  I dig that, and I want my girls to know that conforming is not the answer to finding your inner voice and true self.

Mama's Bits: Kristen Stewart

I decided to start a new category called Mama's Bits {and if you can think of a better name incorporating my main 'Mama' theme just send it along as I am totally open to it} that would show bits of pop culture that I either liked, didn't like or just plain didn't get. 

I thought it would be fun for my girls to look back and over the weeks, months and years as this blog evolves, be able to see who was popular in terms of actresses and musicians and what kind of trouble they got into or smartly managed to stay out of. 

And those exact actresses or musicians would be either the good girls or the very, very bad girls that I teach MY girls about. 

Reading Perez Hilton, Just Jared or Bricks and Stones isn't just for me and my satisfaction of some idiotic guilty pleasure of mine {no, not at all}.  Rather I read these gossip sites to stay relevant for my girls as just maybe their futures might depend on it. 

Mother's are always sacrificing for their children.  

I do try to stay in touch with what is current because I don't want to be one of those Moms that is so entirely out of touch that my child doesn't think I can relate and chooses to talk to someone else about private things instead of talking to me.

So the first person I chose to mention here is Kristen Stewart of the Twilight craziness.  What I love about Kristen is that people always seem to be chasing HER and not the other way around.  I have read gossip sites that say this guy or that guy tried to get near her, but she just stayed off in the corner of the club with her friends.

I LOVE THAT ABOUT HER. 

 
 
  

And what ever magic it is that she possesses that she is not at all impressed with these boys falling over themselves to get near her, I want to impart that magic onto my girls.

Drew and I tell the girls all the time to be themselves, be independent and people will be drawn to you.  Don't follow other kids or feel like you have to do things you wouldn't normally do to fit in.  Be sure of who you are and that is intoxicating in itself.  We don't use the work intoxicating of course, but essentially that is what it is.

People who march to the beat of their own drum are people that other people want to get close to.  Those independent people have a self confidence that others want for themselves and I think Kristen Stewart has it in spades.

Not only is she talented but she seems to be unimpressed by Hollywood and that is not an easy thing to be at her young age.  There are hoards of other young girls that are constantly in the limelight doing extremely stupid things {think Lindsay Lohan} and Kristen {at least so far...don't let me down girl after I just hyped you up here} doesn't do.

Kristen also holds a special place in Drew's heart because he sees alot of Belle in her.  Her quirkiness and her slightly off-beat nature not to mention her looks remind us of our little quirky off-beat natured girl and we couldn't love her more.
