I have read so many great blogs in the past few days that have done a yearly wrap up about what 2009 had meant to them. Some of those people had a great year and some had a shit year and couldn't be happier to kick 2009 out on its ass. For some reason despite reading all these blog entries, I haven't given it much thought as I generally try to live exactly in the moment I am in, but I don't think it would hurt to reflect and put some thoughts down on what 2009 meant to me.
I mean basically as I am writing this I am thinking about what this blog is about and the very purpose of it is to create memories or a family legacy of sorts to have forever. Memories to share with my girls and Drew and other members of my family so that one day if I am no longer here, they can look back at heyMamas and its contents and see what a wise person I was (sound of family laughing at this statement now).
So my girls at twenty can look back and see how far they've come and what they have been through or what battles they have fought and what growing pains they experienced. They can also read about their many achievements and which one brings back the best memories.
My living scrapbook.
Of course I have to do a yearly wrap up, DUH? Just never quite thought of it that way before but clearly I wasn't thinking clearly and now I am and so I will get started on putting those thoughts down.
What I HAVE been thinking about though is what a great meal Drew threw together on New Year's Eve. Although I am thinking our guests could have benefitted from a side of pasta even though we were so stuffed. The tip off being that they were sitting in Scobee Diner later that night.
Scobee Diner anyone? Classic Long Island/Queens place to end your night.
Anyway for the less hungry (wink, wink), we started out with a beautiful plate full of bruschetta with honey and gorgonzola cheese. These I think were my favorite treat of the night. Drew made this for me again on New Year's Eve day and I think I ate the whole plate by myself and yes that is the sound of my thighs rubbing together, you got a problem with that?
He also served prosciutto alongside little apple slices and my friend brought over homemade guacamole which we ate with garlic pita chips. Delicious!!
Then we moved on to grilled shrimp.
And then a serving of crab legs with a whole lotta buttah! And the faint sweet sound of thighs rubbing together could be heard again off in the distance.
And then we chased dinner down with a cloud cake from Trader Joe's and surprisingly I only had one piece and haven't touched it since. See, I hate working and being out of the house all day and forgetting about delicious treats just waiting for me in my fridge that I don't have time to eat.
And lastly, just when you thought we were finished we had homemade graham cracker cookies made by a very special southern Mama.
Oh, and then an hour later or so, ice cream with Magic Shell.
On a full and happy stomach and many cosmopolitans later, me and my girl kicked some major guy ass in a not so friendly game of Taboo. I mean it wasn't. even. close. BOOYAH!
To welcoming in a new year and a new decade with great friends, great food and great memories.
To twenty ten...
