Dear Belle:
It's Mama, and I wanted to tell you about a special thing you accomplished this weekend. There are certain milestones in every child's life, like taking your first step, saying your first word, sleeping through the night, starting nursery school, and making your first friend. This past weekend you achieved one of those milestones, and it was riding your bike without your training wheels.
Dad and I took you to the park. We had decided that seven years old was too old to be riding a bike with training wheels. We had not done much bike riding when you were little, so we were not sure if this plan that we hatched would actually pan out properly, but we were determined to at least give it a shot.
Dad started you out on the grass in case you fell. He would push you to gain momentum and then let go, at which point you would glide across the grass for as long as you could. You did this for a few minutes and then decided you would try your luck riding on the cement path. After a few laps around, it was like you had been riding your bike forever!
You did have an affinity for the trees. There was a magnetic force reserved just for you. If there was a tree in sight, you were heading right for it. It was quite impressive how highly skilled you had become in such a short time. You mastered the move I like to call, 'The Mid-Air Jump'. This move entails you jumping off your bike mid-air when a danger spot was approaching (..trees).
I was so proud of you as I watched you ride around the park. I love you and can't wait to see all of the trails you blaze on this bike of yours.
I Love You,
Mama
